Alex brings strong leadership experience in business development, strategic planning and operations management to the commercial fishing, pearling and aquaculture sectors.

As WAFIC’s Chief Operating Officer since 2014, Alex has managed broad industry stakeholder engagement, systems implementation and strategic planning across a range of critical issues.

Prior to joining WAFIC, Alex worked for more than 15 years in the pearling sector as a licensee and a member of several commercial boards.

He served as Managing Director of Broome-based Autore Pearling and its subsidiary Clipper Pearls, and as a member of the Pearling Industry Advisory Committee.

Alex has also had substantial experience in the hospitality sector having worked as an executive chef for more than a decade in New York and Sydney and as Resort Manger of El Questro Station Wilderness Park in WA’s Kimberley.

He is currently the Chair of the national SeSafe initiative and Deputy Chair of the WA Research Advisory Committee. Alex holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
